RDI is Working in Rural West Bengal, India to Protect Girls from Trafficking and Early Marriage

RDI's Global Center for Women's Land Rights reports that this project targets 22,500 girls whose families are so poor, they can’t afford to pay the traditional dowry required for marriage. In the past, these families had two choices: either send their daughter away to the city to work and earn her own dowry, or marry her off when she was extremely young, to an older man (in such cases dowry is reduced or eliminated). This made girls vulnerable to abuse and exploitation.

Nationwide Survey on Women’s Land Rights in China

In China, RDI is undertaking another nationwide 17-province survey on rural land rights in partnership with Renmin University and Michigan State University. This survey will include a gender component designed by RDI's Global Center for Women's Land Rights to provide more information on how gender differences may affect each family member's ability to use and benefit from the land.
